Sod Installation in Rome, GA
Sod is the fast way to a finished lawn. It works well after construction, after a removal or clearing project, or anywhere a yard is thin, bare and not worth trying to bring back.
Because Tony's does the grading and dirt work too, the ground gets prepared properly before the sod goes down.

What sod installation involves
Sod is grass already grown on a soil mat and laid over prepared ground. Once it roots in, you have a full lawn without waiting through a season of seed germination and washouts.
The prep matters more than the sod. Ground that is rough, compacted or draining the wrong way will show through a new lawn quickly, which is why grading and soil work come first.
When sod is the right choice
- A new build or addition left bare dirt around the house
- The existing lawn is thin, weedy or mostly bare
- Erosion is moving soil and needs cover fast
- A tree removal or grading project left an open area
- A finished look is needed quickly, not in a few months
- A slope needs immediate cover to hold soil
What a sod project may involve
- Looking at drainage, sun and what the existing ground is doing
- Removing old turf, debris or rock
- Grading and smoothing so the finished lawn sits right
- Adding topsoil where the existing soil is poor
- Laying and tamping sod with tight seams
- Talking through watering, since new sod needs consistent water early on
Residential and commercial work
New builds, front yards, back yards and repaired sections after other work.
Sod for commercial frontage, entrances and common areas is quoted the same way, including grading and irrigation where needed.
Sod Installation questions
- How long does new sod take to establish?
- Sod usually starts rooting within a couple of weeks in good conditions and knits in over the following weeks. Consistent watering early on matters more than anything else.
- Should I choose sod or hydroseeding?
- Sod gives an instant lawn and is often chosen for front yards and smaller areas. Hydroseeding covers larger areas at lower cost but takes time to fill in. We will talk through both for your property.
- Do you prepare the ground first?
- Yes. Grading, debris removal and topsoil where needed are part of doing the job right.
- How much water does new sod need?
- Frequent watering in the first weeks, then less often as it roots. If watering by hand is not realistic, irrigation is worth discussing.
- Can sod go over an existing lawn?
- No. Old turf and debris come up first so the new sod is in contact with prepared soil.
- Do you install sod on slopes?
- Yes. Sod is often the better choice on a slope because it holds soil immediately.
