Tree Trimming & Pruning in Rome, GA

Trimming keeps a tree you want to keep. Limbs over a roof, low branches across a driveway and overgrown canopies crowding a house are the most common reasons property owners in Rome call Tony's for trimming rather than removal.

Tony's has been trimming trees across Northwest Georgia since 1982.

What tree trimming accomplishes

Trimming removes specific limbs — the dead ones, the ones rubbing a roof or gutter, the ones hanging low over a drive or walkway, and the ones growing back into the middle of the canopy. The goal is a tree with less weight in the wrong places and more clearance around what is underneath it.

Trimming is not a fix for a structurally failing tree. If the trunk is split or hollow, removal is the honest answer and we will say so.

Reasons to have trees trimmed

  • Limbs touching or overhanging a roof, gutter or chimney
  • Low branches in the way of vehicles, mowers or foot traffic
  • Dead limbs that could break loose in wind
  • Canopy crowding a service drop or blocking a sign or light
  • Overgrown trees shading out a lawn or garden
  • Clearance needed before a roof, siding or fence project

What a trimming job may involve

  • Walking the property and agreeing on which limbs come off
  • Climbing or working from a lift depending on the tree and access
  • Cutting limbs back to a proper point rather than leaving stubs
  • Lowering larger limbs on ropes over anything that can be damaged
  • Chipping brush and hauling it off
  • Blowing or raking the work area before the crew leaves

Residential and commercial work

Most trimming is residential: hardwoods over rooflines, pines along a drive, and yard trees that have not been touched in years.

Trimming for commercial property — parking lots, drives, entrances and sight lines — is quoted the same way.

Tree Trimming questions

When is the best time to trim trees?
Dead, broken or hazardous limbs can come off any time of year. Larger structural trimming is often easier in late fall and winter when the canopy is bare and the crew can see the whole limb structure.
How much should be taken off a tree?
Less than most people expect. Removing too much at once stresses a tree. Tony's trims for clearance and safety rather than cutting a tree back to bare limbs.
Do you top trees?
Topping a healthy tree is not something we recommend. If a tree is too large for its location, reducing specific limbs or removing the tree is usually the better conversation.
Can you trim limbs hanging over my roof?
Yes — that is one of the most common trimming requests. Limbs over a roof are usually rigged and lowered rather than dropped.
Do you clean up the brush?
Yes. Brush is chipped and hauled off and the work area is raked or blown before we leave.
Do you offer free estimates on trimming?
Yes. Call (706) 676-0193 and we will come look at the trees at no charge.
